Activator Method
The Activator is the most widely used chiropractic instrument. Studies show improvement with the Activator Method. It also has been compared to other techniques and proven to be just as effective. This means that for many patients an Activator adjustment could very well lead to the same outcome as a manual adjustment. This offers chiropractors and patients an alternative to manual adjusting when it is preferred for clinical reasons.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an old healing practice of traditional Chinese medicine dating back over 4,000 years. It still remains effective today as a way to strengthen the body rather than merely treating symptoms. It is primarily used to relieve pain as well as treat other conditions. More than 3 million Americans and 200,000 children in the U.S. have had acupuncture to help relieve a symptom or condition. Because of its low side effects, it has been the treatment of choice for many doctors across the country. It is even more popular in other countries.
Chiropractic Care
We specialize in correcting your body’s misalignments. Our goal is to ensure that your spine and the rest of your body are working harmoniously. To do so, we will help you develop a plan that will require light stretching, some exercise, chiropractic care, and a healthy diet.
Chiropractic Adjustments
A chiropractic adjustment can make you feel so much better. Your body does not want to be out of alignment, and that’s exactly what an adjustment can help address. It is also known as chiropractic manipulation, manual manipulation, or spinal manipulation. The adjustment refers to the manipulation of the vertebrae that have abnormal movements and are not functioning properly. A chiropractic adjustment will assist in fixing these issues.
The goal of chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation, increase the range of motion, reduce nerve irritability, and improve mobility. Our compassionate and qualified chiropractor will work with you to relieve this pain and get you back to being pain free every single day.
Although many people visit their chiropractor and have an adjustment when something feels out of alignment, a regular visit will help you avoid any pain in the future and will keep your body feeling great all day long.
If you are having one of those days when you are not in the best mood, an adjustment may actually help. Your body will feel much better, which will naturally improve your mood.
Corrective Exercises
Corrective exercises are the use of bodily movements and/or postures to restore desirable changes in diseased or injured tissues. The corrective exercises are movement strategies that minimize or eliminate compensation. Corrective exercises should precede more integrated exercises, because they can cue the patient’s motor system to respond in a more desirable way and assist in removing or improving biomechanical constraints.
Custom Orthotics
Custom foot orthotics are designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look similar to insoles, but are biomedical appliances that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalance. The plastic body of the custom orthotic helps to re-align the foot while you walk. We understand that everyone is different, which is why custom foot orthotics are made just for you.
Electrical Stimulation
Electrotherapy is an alternative pain management treatment option that involves the use of mild electromagnetic pulses to provide relief for the patient. This treatment option can dull pain, repair tissue, strengthen muscles, and even improve your blood circulation.
Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is the manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person’s health and well-being. There are many types of massage therapy methods (also called modalities). People seek massage therapy for a variety of reasons; for example, to reduce stress and anxiety, to relax muscles, to rehabilitate injuries, to reduce pain and to promote overall health and wellness.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is an intervention administered to various patients to alleviate pain or restrictive tissue problems. The release treatment usually involves the application of gentle or moderate pressure on the connective tissues and leads to relaxation and eventual elongation of the fascia therein. These restrictions are often caused by traumatic accidents or inflammations of the soft tissue. Some patients get them as an after-effect of surgery. They always result in muscular tension and spasm of sharp pain. They cannot be detected through standard diagnosis tests like the x-ray scan. It is essential for a patient to visit a doctor or physiotherapy expert once they notice restriction of movement in the hip area or shoulder. Painful backs can also be a sign of the restriction and can only be treated through the Myofascial Release procedures.
If you have never undergone a Myofascial Release procedure before, you might wonder what will be done. There is no need to panic any way, since it is a minor therapy intervention meant to alleviate any pain that could be as a result of fascia muscle pain and restriction. Here is what you can expect if you visit a standard therapist for your myofascial pain treatment.
- The therapist might have to interview you about what you think the cause of the pain could be. They may also palpitate the affected area to identify the particular fascia that needs to be massaged and given due attention during the procedure.
- A standard treatment should last anywhere from 30 minutes to one hour, but should not last longer than that as that may lead to soreness and fatigue.
- You may experience considerable relief, but if the case is severe, you may need to go for another session or two in the subsequent days.
- The treatment does not require the use of any equipment and creams or gels. The therapist will only need their hands to manipulate and apply slight pressure to the trigger points and affected muscles.
Nutritional Consultations
Here at Beach Physical Medicine we want to help you on your journey towards health and wellness. Our goal is to help you achieve total health and balance with your body. In order to achieve that goal, we are here to offer specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices to help you maintain a healthy weight.
Physiotherapy
It is important to understand that often times where the pain presents is not the area that needs to be treated. The pain may be due to that area compensating and being over-worked from another area not pulling its weight. Our rehabilitation program includes strength, flexibility and agility training as well as training focused on coordination of body parts and motion to prepare the individual to return to full participation.
Spinal Decompression
Spinal decompression is a non-invasive mechanical procedure performed within our office to help alleviate back pain. It involves gently stretching the spine to take pressure off the spinal discs (the cushions that separate the vertebrae in the spine). By relieving this pressure, bulging discs can retract back into place which takes pressure off the nerves in the spine. By decompressing the spine, it permits water, oxygen and other fluids to work their way back into the discs allowing them to heal naturally. Spinal decompression is an excellent option for anyone with chronic back pain who wants to get back to living a pain-free life as quickly as possible.
Spinal Screenings
Sometimes all that stands between your daily pain and a happier, healthier you, is a chiropractic adjustment. Your body naturally wants to be in alignment, and our daily activities can throw what is naturally aligned out of balance. Also known as chiropractic manipulation, manual manipulation, or spinal manipulation, chiropractic adjustment refers to the manipulation of the vertebrae that have abnormal movements and are not functioning properly. Here at Beach Physical Medicine, we can help you achieve balance and proper alignment, giving you relief and improving your health.
Our goal in treating your joint and spinal issues is to reduce subluxation, increase range of motion, reduce nerve irritability, and improve mobility. Our highly skilled chiropractor will work with you to relieve your pain and get you back to living a pain free and healthy lifestyle.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound therapy is a chiropractic treatment used to help reduce muscle pain and increase range of motion. By using sound waves, we are able to stimulate deep inside the tissue. This minimizes stiffness, swelling, and pain while also promoting circulation, and pain-free movement.
Weight Loss
Weight loss is something with which millions of people struggle. As you know, your weight doesn’t just contribute to your physical appearance. Your weight and the amount of fat in your body can help or hurt your body by contributing to either a healthy physique or lead to medical issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. Weight loss is not just about restricting calories, which is what most people try to do. Weight loss is really about correcting your nutrition, managing your stress, and for some, working with or around chronic diseases and medical conditions.
Worker’s Compensation
Worker’s compensation is a form of insurance that replaces lost wages and pays for medical and chiropractic care for people injured on the job. It typically covers a number of injuries that can happen to nearly any worker. These injuries may occur as a result of a slip and fall accident, tripping over a hazard or on an unsafe surface, or falling off a ladder. For some workers, workers’ compensation will cover injuries that happen while the worker is driving or traveling as part of his or her work duties.
Musculoskeletal disorders affect a person’s muscles, bones, joints and connective tissue, such as tendons and ligaments.
A number of musculoskeletal disorders can keep a worker off the job, including:
- Sprains, strains, and tears
- Back pain
- Neck pain
- Carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive stress injuries
- Headaches and migraines
X-Rays
One of the most important elements of chiropractic care is diagnostics. Chiropractic radiology is a tool utilized in care as a diagnostic practice to rule out pathology (such as possible tumor or fracture) and/or an additional aid to determine where to adjust the spine. Chiropractors rely on a variety of diagnostic techniques in order to fully understand what is occurring in the patient’s musculoskeletal system, and how a given treatment intervention could bring about positive results in each patient.
Diagnostic Ultrasound
This examination is reimbursed by all insurance and is very helpful in joint treatments. The diagnostic potential includes the diagnosis of tendon tears, tendinopathy, muscle strains or contusions, nerve entrapments, ligament sprains, joint effusions, arthritis and evaluation to look for foreign bodies. When traditional methods of management like rest, ice and anti-inflammatories fail to provide adequate relief, ultrasound offers another alternative to help guide injections. The therapeutic potential of ultrasound includes needle tenotomies, aspiration, lavage, barbotage and biopsies. The types of guided injection can range from corticosteroid, hyaluronic acid, platelet rich plasma, prolotherapy, and many other HCTPs. There have been multiple studies demonstrating that ultrasound guided injections are more accurate than palpation or “blind” injections.
Durable Medical Equipment (DME)
DME is equipment or supplies ordered by a health care provider for everyday and/or extended use. Some examples of the DME you might use with your patients include:
T.E.N.S. units, T.E.N.S. garments, cervical posture pump, cervical /neck collar, thoracic-lumbar-sacral orthotic brace or (TLSO), lumbar brace T9-S1, lumbar brace L5-S1, knee orthosis brace, elbow braces and wrist braces just to mention a few.
Digital X-Rays
A necessary diagnostic tool to visualize the need for interventions. Often times we can recognize a future potential musculoskeletal issue by radiographical evidence and recommend preventative therapies to slow down the degeneration, and help control the inflammation to restore optimal function.
Trigger Point Injections (TPI) with Lidocaine
TPI is a procedure used in treating painful areas of muscle that contain trigger points, or knots of muscle that form when muscles do not relax. Many times, such knots can be felt under the skin. Trigger points can irritate the nerves around them causing referred, where pain can be felt in another part of the body.
Lab Work
For practices offering functional medicine, in many cases, the lab work that is needed to determine what types of treatments can be covered by the patient’s insurance.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections
PRP is an injection made from a patient’s own blood that contains plasma and platelets, normally around 3-5 times more concentrated, to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. PRP injections use the individual patient’s own healing system, made stronger by being concentrated, to improve musculoskeletal problems. There are already some types of insurance paying for PRP currently and more are expected in the near future.
Prolotherapy
Prolotherapy is used to reduce pain caused by musculoskeletal conditions. The treatment involves repeated injections of an irritant solution into part of a joint to stimulate an immune healing reaction. Most patients feel real improvement after 3-4 injections. The number of treatments and duration between them is determined by the rate of progress. Studies suggest a success rate of 80-90% for all patients.
Human Cellular Tissue Products
Regenerative medicine procedures have been called stem cell or exosome therapies. The proper title for these type of treatments is : Human Cellular Tissue Products. These tissues are donated by a woman at the time of a cesarean birth. No abortions are involved. These cellular tissues contain growth factors, anti-inflammatories, collagen to grow new tissue, stem cells and numerous other products that can help heal your body. These products can prevent needless surgery and are the most amazing products and treatments you can be doing. These injections can be used for a variety of different health-related problems but are most commonly used for orthopedic problems or neuropathy.
Use of Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) Injections
Benefits of this injection are said to include: improved cognitive function, pain relief, addiction recovery, improved athletic performance and more. This is an anti-aging treatment that is rapidly gaining popularity.
B12 Injections
Symptoms of B12 deficiency are; extreme tiredness (fatigue), lack of energy (lethargy), breathlessness, feeling faint, headaches, pale skin, palpitations. B12 injections are an extremely effective way to supplement and solve this common deficiency.
Vitamin C Injections
Vitamin C is vital for healthy skin, blood vessels, bones, and cartilage. It also promotes and aids in healing of damaged tissue in the body. Overall these injections are excellent for general health, boosting the immune function, and weight loss.
Glutathione Injections
Glutathione injections work by clearing the body of toxins and free radicals that lead to hyperpigmentation, age spots, sun spots, wrinkles, acne, and even melasma. It helps with tissue building and repair. This can be beneficial for those with damage from hepatitis, alcohol abuse, and fatty liver disease. It also helps make chemicals and proteins that the body needs for several processes. Furthermore, it has anti-inflammatory benefits. The most effective way to enhance glutathione levels is having regular glutathione injections.
Intravenous (IV) Treatment or Therapy
This is a treatment that delivers important vitamins, minerals and fluids directly into the bloodstream quickly and efficiently. When you receive IV therapy, the nutrients bypass your digestive system, so they get to your body in the most direct way possible. It is most commonly used to build up immunity with nutritional supplements but can be used for an integrated medical approach as well.
Peptide Therapy
Peptide therapy is an exciting new approach for many age-related conditions. Peptides are found naturally in the body and result from a combination of atleast two amino acids. They are small versions of proteins. They function primarily as signaling agents within the body. Since peptides regulate various functions of your body (such as the ability to lose weight, function sexually, or digest foods adequately), peptide therapy holds promise for many significant interventions, especially in regenerative and anti-aging medicine.
Medically Supervised Weight Loss
Medically supervised weight loss attracts a lot of new patients that want to have a medical professional oversee their weight loss. Medically supervised weight loss also opens the possibilities to many different options for helping the patient loss weight.
